rbST and Consumer Choice
Critics of rbST frequently allege that consumers are denied their freedom of choice when dairy product labels do not disclose that the product was derived from rbST-supplemented cows. Defenders of rbST contend that since milk from rbST-supplemented cows is not different from that of non-supplemented cows, labeling is unnecessary and that the “freedom of choice” argument is immaterial.
